Destroy All Humans! certainly has a lot going for it. With a hot developer (Pandemic's recent track record includes the well received Mercenaries, Full Spectrum Warrior, and Star Wars Battlefront), a great premise (GTA meets aliens--right on), and even an entertaining, black-and-white TV Land-style ad campaign, it sure seems set to make a noticeable splash. The fact that it does so much well, though, makes its flaws stand out all that much more. The game's story is unremarkable but gets the job done. You play as Cryptosporidium-137--your standard-issue gray-skinned, big-headed, back-talking, UFO-jockeying alien--who is sent to Earth to investigate the disappearance of Cryptosporidium-136, his predecessor who was involved in a crash and has gone missing. Your adventure takes you from remote farms to backwoodsy towns to research facilities to the country's fictional capital. Aiding you on your quest in this third-person action-adventure are a handful of upgradeable weapons, a puttering jetpack, a few alien powers, and a UFO that comes complete with a cow-swinging tractor beam. Unfortunately, you'll be grinning while bearing it, as the game starts losing its luster once you get past its presentation. The main game isn't terribly long, and the missions, though sometimes creative, are often frustrating because there's usually only one way to complete them, making them feel needlessly restrictive--something that stings a little more in a sandbox game such as this.
